As the weather warms up motorcyclists once again take to the road in earnest. Unfortunately, early in the season, the Smithtown Fire Department is called to answer motor vehicle accident and injury alarms involving motorcycles. Many accidents are caused by a car or truck driver who is not aware that there is even a motorcycle in range. Here are ten things all car and truck drivers should know about motorcycles.

Quick Tips – Crawl Low Under Smoke

If you encounter smoke using your primary exit, use your alternate route instead. If you must exit through smoke, clean air will be several inches off the floor. Get down on your hands and knees, and crawl to the nearest safe exit.

How often do you need a flashlight only to find that – 1.You can’t find it. 2. The batteries are dead.

The Smithtown Fire Department wants to make sure your emergency flashlights work when you need them. Some basic tips will help you see the light -

Use only high quality alkaline batteries.

Make sure your home has an ample supply of replacemet batteries in an easily accessible location.

Keep a working flashlight near your bed, in the kitchen, basement and family room.
