
A morning MVA was toned out by the Smithtown Fire Department at 8:04 am at the location of Brooksite Drive and Route 347.

The Smithtown Fire Department toned out a signal 13, structural fire with a smoke condition and possible fire in the wall above the fire place at 7 Carrie Court at 4:24am.
Upon arrival 1st Assistant Chief Duffy upgraded the alarm to a 13/35 working fire. Responding to the alarm were Engines 4-2-3, 4-2-4, 4-2-5, Ladder 4-2-7 and Ambulances 4-2-61 and 4-2-64.
The fire, which was caused by a structural breach above the fireplace, was quickly brought under control.
All units were up at 5:30am.

The Smithtown Fire Department continued to drill at an empty home on Summerset.
On Tuesday, November 18th an evening drill was held on the property. Under the command of Second Assistant Chief John Hansen, firefighters and officers did a Rapid Intervention Team drill. The drill concentrated on firefighter rescue.

An afternoon MVA was toned out by the Smithtown Fire Department at 14:47 (2:47 pm) at the location of Maple Avenue and Wildwood Lane.

Former Chief of Department and member of the Board of Fire Commissioners Richard Keller was honored on November 16th by the Fire Chief’s Council of Suffolk County as the “Chief of the Year”.
On hand to share the evening with Dick were members of the Chief’s staff, Engine Company 5, and Board of Fire Commissioners.

The Smithtown Fire Department has a weeklong opportunity to drill in a house on Summerset. The cape is scheduled for demolition in a few weeks. The property owner is building a new home and has graciously allowed the Department to use the house for training.
On Sunday, November 16th a morning drill was held on the property. Under the command of Second Assistant Chief John Hansen, firefighters did evolutions on search and rescue, ladder operations, purging walls for escape and overhaul.
Additional drills will concentrate on Rapid Intervention and roof ventilation.

The Smithtown Fire Department toned out a 16/23 (Ambulance requested – Motor Vehicle Accident/ Heavy Rescue) at 01:17:48 (1:17:48 AM) on Saturday, November 15th, at Meadow Road and Springbriar Lane. Upon arrival Second Assistant Chief Hansen (4-2-32) witnessed a white Toyota that had struck a utility pole with the driver as the only occupant. Working with Chief Hanson at the scene were Third Assistant Chief Sisino (4-2-33) Engines 4-2-4 and 4-2-15, Rescue 4-2-9 and Ambulance 4-2-62.
The driver of the vehicle, a 17 year old from Kings Park, was pinned in the driver’s seat. A complex extrication was undertaken that involved the removal of the passenger door, vehicle’s roof and dash board assembly.
The injured driver was removed and transported to the Stony Brook University Medical Center. No report on his injuries at this time.


The Smithtown Fire Department toned out a 16/23 (Ambulance requested – Motor Vehicle Accident) at 17:56:13 (5:56 PM) on Friday, November 14th to Main Street and Route 111. Upon arrival Third Assistant Chief Sisino (4-2-33) witnessed a two car collision. Upon arrival he positioned Rescue 4-2-9 and ambulance 4-2-62 at the scene. One injured driver was transported to St, Catherine of Sienna Medical Center. The other driver in the incident did not require medical attention. All units were up upon the completion of a road clean-up.

The Smithtown Fire Department toned out a signal 14 – car fire, on Saturday morning at 05:52:52. Upon arrival at 3 Larson Lane a fully involved car fire was witnessed. Responding to the fire were Engines 4-2-1. 4-2-4 and ladder 4-2-5. The fire was quickly extinguished.


The Smithtown Fire Department toned out a signal 13 (structural fire) on Saturday, November 1st at 2:28 am at 30 Helen Avenue. Upon arrival fire was seen at the rear of the one family residence. Chief of Department Thomas Duckman dispatched a signal 13/35 (working fire) calling for all available Smithtown FD manpower and apparatus.
Smithtown began attacking the stubborn fire and called for mutual aid from Nesconset, Hauppauge and Kings Park.
The origin of the fire is still under investigation by the Smithtown Fire Marshals.
