A signal 16/23, ambulance requested, MVA with an ejection was toned out to the Smithtown Fire Department at 00:32 (12:32am) on Thursday, July 03, 2008. The incident was reported eastbound on Route 25A across from Avalon Gardens.
Responding to the scene were Chiefs 4-2-30, 4-2-31, 4-2-33, Rescue 4-2-9, Engine 4-2-15 and Ambulances 4-2-61 and 4-2-62, EMS 4-2-81 and an ambulance from the Nesconset Fire Department.
Upon arrival units witnessed a one car accident with vehicle and foliage debris spread over a significant area. Two occupants of the vehicle were counted.
Rescue 4-2-9 preformed a preliminary search in a ravine off the side of 25A to determine if there were additional occupants in the vehicle. The initial search was negative.
Two injuries required the need for transport. 4-2-62 took one occupant to St. Catherine of Sienna Hospital. The Nesconset FD ambulance transported the other occupant to the Stop and Shop parking lot on Jericho Turnpike in Smithtown where a Suffolk County Police Helicopter and Engine 4-2-1, on watch, were waiting to airlift the injured to the Stony Brook University Medical Center.
There is no report on the condition of either occupant at this time.
The Suffolk County Police Department remained at the scene to determine the cause of the accident. K-9 assistance was also requested.
